After two years of enjoying working at Linkage, it looks like I will be handing in my notice on Monday morning as resident techie/networking guru at Linkage College's Toynton Campus.
In short, I have just landed a major consultancy contract with a local Lincolnshire company that will let me earn in one day what it currently takes me five days to earn at Linkage.
Spilsby Internet Solutions has been self-supporting and profitable for a long time now but as it pretty much runs itself, I have always been stuck for something to do with my spare time... this contract now allows me to employ myself and also gives me no excuse not to tidy up my little office at home so that I can actually use it as a workspace :-)
I do find it distressing that the new management of the ICT Department at Linkage are seeing fit to wreck a perfectly working network by implementing Microsoft software everywhere they go... not because it is the best tool for the job but because it is the only tool that they know how to use!
I guess this is what happens when you stick two MCSEs in charge of the entire network and the guy with the CCIE, CCSE, RHCE and B.Sc in Computer Studies gets chucked to the bottom of the decision-making process with no possibility of veto.
Anyway, I'll still be around campus from time to time as I will carry on teaching my Design & Technology evening class so my login/mailbox won't get nuked just yet ;-p |
