The glut of memory on the market due to the over-zealousness of DRAM manufacturers and the general shiteyness of Windoze Vista is certainly good for me as prices are currently at an all-time low.
Therefore, I have just ordered around 32GB (yep, that is GB, not MB!) of various DRAM modules for my motley collection of servers spanning the globe.
Perhaps the most notable is the purchase of 8Gb for my soon-to-be-launched VDS (Virtual Dedicated Server) service; my aim is to get around 16 customers onto a Core 2 Quad-powered box with the aforementioned RAM and 2Tb of online RAID-5 storage - initial tests look very promising.
I already have five pre-orders for the VDS service and I'm offering various fixed service plans with up to 200Gb of diskspace, up to 2Gb of RAM and the option to reserve an entire CPU core for your exclusive use.
I also have the VPS (Virtual Private Server) service nearly out the door - more details on that when I have the pricing worked out - the problem with being a techie first and salesperson second is that I tend to do the fun stuff first and then the boring stuff last!
The expansion plans to go into a fourth datacenter are also well underway; met with the techs and salespeople on Friday and their pricing is incredibly competitive - they seem to know their stuff and unlike a certain local datacenter, they have multiple providers in the building, geographically-separate UPS instances throughout, a range of telcos providing ridiculously cheap fibre/copper interconnects to various peering points throughout the UK and lots more besides. |
